Community Alliance for Better Government Announces Endorsements for Aldermanic, Clerk Races

Community Alliance for Better Government (CABG) urges Evanston residents to vote for the following candidates for their wards and for City Clerk:

  • 1st Ward: Clare Kelly
  • 2nd Ward: Darlene Cannon
  • 3rd Ward: Nick Korzeniowski
  • 4th Ward: Diane Goldring
  • 5th Ward: Carolyn Murray
  • 6th Ward: Tom Suffredin
  • 7th Ward: Mary Rosinski
  • 8th Ward: Devon Reid
  • City Clerk: Stephanie Mendoza

All would further CABG’s Platform for Government Transparency, developed by residents in an open process at CABG’s “Call to Conference” in January 2021. The Platform calls for a responsive and transparent city government; a City Council, Clerk, and Mayor that make room for all residents in shaping city priorities, with affirmative outreach to those traditionally marginalized instead of those with the deepest pockets; and systemic racial equity, diversity, and inclusion permeating every level of policy development and budgeting, staffing, and service delivery.

“It takes the people to elect people who stand for racial and economic justice in Evanston, and it takes the people to hold them accountable.”

CABG founder Bennett Johnson.

CABG’s original mantra was “Reparations Start with Kevin Brown.” This grassroots campaign coalesced in 2019 with the voices of one hundred residents of all backgrounds and wards protesting the unfair firing of the successful and broadly popular leader of the Youth and Young Adult Division, Kevin Brown, who is Black. Reparations are more than about funds; they are about the policies, programs, and above all systems that live out the creed of racial equity and obviate the need for reparatory justice in the future for the harms being done today.

CABG calls for racial justice, transparency, and accountability in Evanston government, and will actively campaign for these candidates
